Total Entertainment Network Selects Concentric Network for Access to Premier Multiplayer Online Gaming Action

LOS ANGELES, CALIF. -- May 16, 1996 -- Concentric Network Corp., a leading provider of online network services and Total Entertainment Network, the leading interactive entertainment network for game playing consumers, announced today that the Concentric Network has been selected as the preferred means of access for TEN. As an alternative to using a standard Internet connection, TEN users will have the option of connecting to TEN through the Concentric Network, which provides a reliable low-latency connection for top-performance fast-action game play.

"The Concentric Network provides the high performance, low latency network access needed to take advantage of the advanced features of today's online games," said Jack Heistand, TENs president and CEO.

Concentric Network will provide local dialup access to TEN over 30,000 local exchanges and 3,000 communities in North America. The two companies are beta testing the virtual private network for TEN and expect to launch services commercially later this year.

Total Entertainment Network is committed to creating the premier consumer network for online gaming, and chose the Concentric Network as its preferred gateway after analyzing network performance. By building the most technologically advanced Internet platform, TEN enables software publishers to make their content, including fast-action games, playable across the country. On top of the platform, TEN provides a full-featured service so that the interaction of the games is supported within a stylized, cohesive, social environment.

"Comparisons of the online gaming experience on the Concentric Network versus an Internet connection show that Concentric can provide the high performance and low, fixed latency necessary to really experience the advanced virtual reality feel of TENs highly graphical games," said Henry R. Nothhaft, Concentrics president and CEO. "The performance advantage is key for competitive multiplayer action."
